Detroit Wedding Photography

It’s no secret that a backyard wedding is one of my favorite venues. There are a million reasons why it’s not always possible or practical, but there is just something so personal about opening up a family home to all of your wedding guests. Karin’s parents were able to do just that and it was really special. After the wedding ceremony at Karin & Nate’s church, everyone returned to the family home where they personally greeted every guest as they entered the door. This little gesture felt very symbolic of their new life as a married couple and the close knit group enjoyed an awesome celebration throughout the afternoon and evening with beautiful lake views. The weather came through for us with some awesome golden light. The party had bbq, garden inspired centerpieces, cupcakes, donuts, belly laughs, tears, and lots of joy. Cheers to Karin & Nate!

Lauren and Joe celebrated the classic beauty of Detroit on their wedding day.  They chose to get married in the oldest church building in the city - Ss. Peter & Paul.  This stunning location for their vows, in combination with a variety of classic and unique portrait locations left me feeling warm and fuzzy even on a cold late fall day.  We even saw the first snowflakes of the year ;)  I must also mention that Joe and Lauren are the fourth couple we've had the privilege of photographing who met and fell in love at UM Law!  Maybe it's the romantically beautiful architecture of the law quad, who knows, but there are clearly some good vibes happening at that school!  ;)  I'm SO happy for these two - cheers to married life Lauren & Joe!

Emily & Matt are absolutely the sweetest, and what an amazing day they had last Saturday!  It was such a relaxed day.  Seriously, it was so laid back - they were both so excited to finally get married, but they were completely calm the entire time.  Their vows didn't leave a dry eye in the crowd, the summery light was gorgeous, and the dance floor was packed through the end of the night.  I'm so happy we were a part of it.  Cheers to E + M!!

Looking back on this wedding, it kind of feels like the ultimate DETROIT wedding.  Like, if you want to celebrate Detroit's greatness during the course of your wedding day, you should do what Jenn and Jon did.  They got ready at the historic Inn on Ferry Street (beautifully renovated homes), were married at the Piquette Plant surrounded by incredible old Ford automobiles, had Slow's BBQ cater their reception, danced the night away, and finished the evening with Lafayette Coney Dogs.  Oh, and well, this might not exactly fit in with the Detroit theme, but two of Jon's groomsmen performed a rap and recorder performance as Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker.  So you can just go ahead and add that to the list of things that made this wedding Oh. So. Good.  Congrats you two!

On October 20th I received an email from our friend Kelsey asking, "What are you doing on Halloween"?  Kelsey and Noah were planning a small intimate wedding ceremony in their Hamtramck apartment, and without hesitation Mike and I knew we wanted to be there to photograph it.  As our last wedding on the books for 2014, Kelsey and Noah's event was incredibly inspiring and refreshing, which makes sense given these two make up one ridiculously talented pair.  Kelsey is a painter (if you are in Detroit on November 20th, make sure you check out her show) and Noah is a writer.  It was so incredibly fun to hang out with these two, and witness their first moments as a married couple.  Thanks for having us.

Michelle and Brian are the down to earth kind of couple that could go anywhere and be happy as long as they are with each other.  It just so happens that they spent their wedding day together at a couple of very memorable places: the Marriott at the Ren Cen and the Detroit Yacht Club.  We dodged the rain in order to take some outdoor photos on Belle Isle, and although the ceremony had to be moved inside, it made for some very dramatic images.  Congrats you two, it was awesome working together.
