We fit Megan & Mike’s session into this perfect pocket of time - We were able to capture tons of late fall color before all of the leaves fell, as well as the icy blues of Lake Michigan. Mike proposed to Megan out at Empire Bluff, so it was extra special for them to have their photos taken here. To me it doesn’t get much better than hiking around this magical landscape with clients. Especially clients who are outdoorsy, and fun, and make the occasional goofy face at each other. AND I’m obsessed with Megan’s sweater poncho, so we’re basically destined to be best friends. I hope you’re enjoying this late Fall season as much as I am. Stay cozy my friends.
I’ll never get over this wedding. What an amazing day. We can’t imagine a more amazing way to wrap up our 2018 wedding season! The weather was something else - I don’t want to make this entire post about the weather, so let’s just get that out of the way first. We had rain that turned into snow. Yes, snow. We had fall colors and bitter temperatures. We had crazy wind. The sun came out like a blinding force and then hid again behind the clouds. For a couple of minutes there was a neon pink sunset that quickly left us and turned into a blizzard and a dusting of snow that actually stuck to the ground. So yes, it was a pretty unbelievable day weather-wise. But Jess and Stef handled it with humor - they laughed it off and even embraced it. I have to say, their ceremony in the barn turned into a warm and cozy intimate gathering as a result. Their vows were just filled to the brim with appreciation for each other, with emotion, with love. Their pup, Champ, made an appearance. Their Fall decor, and floral, and hand lettering, and desserts were on point. At the end of Stef’s dance with her dad, she brought her mom in. At the end of Jess’s dance with her dad, she brought out mitts for some catch. Everything was incredibly special and personal. I could go on and on, but I’ll let you check out the preview instead. Stef & Jess - thank you and congratulations!!

Fall is pure magic. When the hills behind your ceremony site are every single shade of orange, and yellow, and red, well that’s the stuff dreams are made of. Laura & Zack have been so fun to work with. We were able to include their dogs in their Fall engagement session last year, and ever since meeting them I have been truly looking forward to this day. P.S. When you have a separate vodka bar covered in the Polish flag, hard candies, and old family photographs you’re definitely speaking my language. As October comes to a close, I have just sincerely been filled with so much gratitude. Not only for these two amazing people, but for all of the couples who have trusted us this year. I can confidently say that I am so grateful to be a part of each and every wedding we document. Sometimes I’m still completely blown away by that honor. Cheers to Zack & Laura - Na Zdrowie!

My dear friend Courtney has met a wonderful man, Mark. My heart is so full seeing how happy they are together. I made a quick trip down to Ann Arbor last week so that I could capture some Fall engagement photos for them. After the shoot was finished I got a text from Courtney that said, “I’m a little overwhelmed with my beautiful life/family/friends right now. So spectacular!”. This means everything to me. If my images can play a small part in helping people feel gratitude for their life, to feel thankful and present in the moment, then I’m doing something right. I also hope that as sweet Thea grows, these photos will be a little reminder of just how loved she is. Courta - I’m honored to photograph your beautiful life. I CAN’T WAIT for the wedding.
The Lammers family has truly welcomed us into their lives over the past year and a half - we’ve had the honor of photographing the weddings of three sisters: Emily, Anna, and now Claire. We can’t speak highly enough about this family. We recognized so many faces at this wedding that at the end of the night I felt like we were hugging half of the guests goodbye. Now - Claire & Jake. What a special relationship they have. It was so apparent from the first look, to the moment they realized they had both gifted each other Shinola watches, to the walk down the aisle, to the ceremony, to the way they interacted with their family and friends. All of it was special and genuine and sincere. We are so grateful to have had the opportunity to document this day… I could go on and on. Instead I’ll just let you get to the preview. Cheers to Claire & Jake!
On Saturday Michael and I headed to Mackinac Island to document a surprise proposal - and then engagement session. It was so special and sweet, and we also got super into pretending to be covert spies as we hid microphones and tried not to be obvious while pretending to nonchalantly photograph and film the grounds of Mission Point Resort. Matt and Dawn were wonderful and after the proposal we spent some time with them exploring Mackinac Island on a moody early Fall day. I have to say, if you’re considering a trip to the Island, this time of year is a great time to go. It was so beautiful and way more laid back than it is in the height of Summer. Congratulations Matt & Dawn!
Special thanks to Mission Point Resort for advice and assistance in coordinating Matt’s proposal!
With snow just around the bend, Jamie & Joe hiked out to Brown Bridge Quiet Area with me for a morning session. The landscape was filled with mist, fog, and golden hued foliage. I think it ended up being pretty darn perfect. We walked quite a bit of trail, avoiding the muddy patches and finding glimpses of the river between the pines. Get out there people! It's beautiful even in these "in between" seasons. And congrats to Jamie and Joe!
Briana and Bob have adopted two adorable children, Korben and Autumn, from China. I first met Korben a few years ago now, and at the end of September they were able to make the trip to bring Autumn home. As they are adjusting to life as a family of four, it seemed like a perfect time to document them together. I think the happiness is pretty contagious.
It's not everyday that you get to go to a private island for an engagement session, but that's exactly what I got to do with Deb & Al! Al is the property manager for Namaste Island, a 7 acre privately owned island in Bass Lake. We took the pontoon boat over, started a fire and hiked the trail that runs the length of the island. It was a perfect spot for a fall engagement session. Congrats to Deb & Al!!
Chelsea and Joris met in an airport. It truly sounds like the plot line from a movie. He's from the Netherlands and she's from the mitten. They've had to endure a lot of time away from each other - and coming from someone who lives and works with her husband almost 24/7, I can't imagine how difficult that must be. So you could basically feel the happiness radiating off of them on their wedding day. Not only about the fact that they would be getting married, but that they would no longer be living on SEPARATE CONTINENTS! It has truly been a pleasure to get to know these two. I couldn't be more honored that they chose us to document their wedding day. Oh, and P.S. it took place at one of our favorite spots - Brengman Brothers :) Cheers to Chelsea & Joris!
Fall has really been delivering some TRULY BEAUTIFUL STUFF lately. Seriously. I had such a blast roaming around the Historic Barns Park with Maren and Drew last week. These two are just super, super, sweet and I'm so excited for them! Eeekk! They are getting married next year in beautiful Northern Michigan - I can't wait!
You may recognize some familiar faces here... The Martens clan is pretty much an extension of my family and I have done a few sessions for them at this point (Nick's brother Ted and his family were featured earlier this summer on the blog!). This time we headed to Barton Pond in Ann Arbor to capture these two heart-melting boys as they explored the river, fields, woods and falling leaves. I just love being able to document these simple moments and I hope they don't get sick of me always pointing a camera in their adorable faces!
Where to begin... Fritz and Shahar are the real deal folks. They became our friends long before they became our clients, so taking their engagement photos was almost TOO much fun. Seriously. I headed down to Fritz's parents' property in Big Rapids where their wedding will be next summer. We walked through the woods and the fields on an absolutely gloriously sunny fall day. Oh Michigan, we all make jokes about your weather, but sometimes you truly deliver.
Oh, these two. We hit it off right away. Lauren and Brandon are sincerely, purely, without a doubt, happy. The kind of happy where a quick glance at each other turns into belly aching laughter. I love it, and I can't wait for their May wedding next year.
I don't know what to write to express how special Kelly & Matt's wedding was. These two have a very genuine bond which was very apparent in their laugh out loud funny ceremony. But their day was also the perfect mix of funny and beautifully emotional. I don't think there was a dry eye in the house during Kelly's dad's toast. Congrats you two, we wish you only the best.
This session was all smiles. We found some great spots around Kerrytown and Argo Park in Ann Arbor. It has been a while since my last visit to Argo, so it was cool to see how things have changed and learn about some great new river access spots! Even though I'm bummed we won't be photographing Erin and Dave's North Carolina wedding next year, I'm very happy that we were able to meet up for some engagement shots in a special town.
A super sweet couple. A bright fall day. A ceremony in a church with generations of family history. This was a classic and genuine hometown wedding, that we were so happy to be a part of. AND to top it all off, Bob is a dentist and his last name is Love - "Yeah, they call me Dr. Love!"
I had the pleasure of photographing Stephanie and Ryan together as a newly engaged couple back in October - 2012. They were amazing to work with and we had a blast roaming around the outskirts of Ann Arbor and Dexter, MI. We had perfect weather to enjoy a fall day outside, hanging out in pumpkin patches and drinking cider. I am truly looking forward to their upcoming wedding in Ann Arbor!
