This album is incredible. Plain and simple. As you lift it out of the box and remove it’s soft, plush, protective sleeve, the weight in your hands has an impact. The texture of the leather is beautiful. The album cover has been blind debossed with Megan & Evan’s custom logo. The pages are thick and lay flat. The luster paper has a soft sheen to it. This will become a cherished possession as the years pass and a tangible reminder of their wedding day. I’m really proud of this one and I’m so happy that they love it even more than I do ;)

I’m so excited to be offering this new product for our wedding clients! We will now have two different album options, a book style album and this legacy style album. This album is bound by hand in the USA using archival materials. With proper care, they have a lifetime guarantee. Multiple color and cover options are available. Time flies, so if you haven’t had time to make a wedding album or print your images, don’t hesitate to get in touch!

2018. What a year! I’ve been working on curating some highlight posts from our 2018 wedding season. Stay tuned for some of our top fave candid moments, portraits, and detail photos of the year! In the meantime, I also decided to sort all of the photos of us (or our assistants!) that I set aside while culling wedding images. As I look through these - and a few definitely made me laugh out loud when I found them - it really captures how much fun we have doing this work. That even after hours and hours of work we feed off of the energy of weddings. In this post you’ll have the chance to see me shooting the styling skillz of the ELD planning team, wiping up the dance floor with Sincerely Ginger Weddings, adjusting a bride’s hair or veil or dress, and would ya just take a look at Michael’s squat form?! You’ll see the fine fashion stylings of our amazing photo friend, Chelsey, who grabbed her jacket for a drizzly day only to realize that she now had on competing and very dramatic floral prints. You’ll see a lot of crazy faces, our video assistant (Sawyer!) doing his best boy band pose, and tons of shots of me wildly gesticulating and pointing as I direct clients. There was also the morning that Michael had to hug all of the dresses as they hung from Starry Night Barn while waiting for the wind to die down! If you have the dedication to keep scrolling, you’ll even get a chance to see the time my mom photobombed my test shot of Michael at the one wedding we photographed this year where my parents were guests :) At the end of the day, I’m filled with warm fuzzies when I go through these. 2018 clients, we love you all. With deep sincerity - Thank you.

P.S. Most of these are shots to test lighting. So when you see Michael at your head table or standing behind your cake, he wasn’t doing it “just because”. He was there to make sure my lighting was correct - except he can’t seem to take a serious picture to save his life, so in most of them he is doing something weird or cheesin’ super hard.

P.S.S. Huge thank you to Chelsey, Hallie, Josh, Lindsey & Cathy for taking some of these pics!

My friend Julie is building a really amazing business - with the help of her whole family ;) The Purple Beet is a company built to make sure you have quick, easy and healthy food options ready to go at a moments notice. I am especially excited about her new smoothie subscription service that allows you to select your favorite smoothie flavors and have them delivered to your door. Keep them in the freezer until you are ready to go. I can’t wait to make this a part of my routine and you should definitely check it out. We’ll be working with Julie and her family again in the coming months and I can’t wait to share more!

Happy Monday! Last week I went to Petoskey to meet up with a group of awesome women! Savannah is the face behind Nakina Artistry, soon to become Nakina & Ko. She creates magic with hair and makeup, but she also has big plans for a rebrand which will include more lifestyle content in the future. You’ll just have to follow along with Sav to stay in the loop! ;)

"I hear babies crying, I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll never know
And I think to myself what a wonderful world
Yes I think to myself what a wonderful world"

Megan's dad learned how to play the ukulele so that he could play this song at her wedding reception.  It was a beautiful moment to witness.  It was a reminder of just how fleeting and special wedding days are.  The love that is poured into one single day so that a couple can begin their married life together surrounded by the people who love them the most.

Winter weddings are kind of a novelty for us.  A rare gem.  We don't get very many inquiries for them, but I'm hoping that more people will start to seriously consider getting married at this time of year.  The sky and the lake were bright blue.  Despite a warm up that melted most of our snow pack, the remaining cover was bright white and dramatic.  And these two.  I can't express enough just how much we loved working with them.

I'll share one story before I let the photos tell the rest:  While Kathy was dancing with her dad at the end of this amazing day, I looked over to see her mom tearing up.  Simon came over to stand next to her and give her a hug.  Pretty soon Kathy's maid of honor came over and ended up crying right alongside her mom.  Then another bridesmaid... then an aunt.  Before they knew it they were all laughing at the fact that they were all crying.  Their arms were wrapped around each others shoulders as they cried and laughed and cheered.  That combination of intense emotions - the joy, the nostalgia, the sheer happiness of gathering with all of your favorite people - those are the things that make me absolutely love this job.

Tara and Ron decided to elope with only their closest friends and family in attendance at Mackinaw Trail Winery just outside of Petoskey.  They had blue skies, very comfortable weather, and just the first hints of fall in the air.  Tara has a daughter, Addy, from a previous marriage.  Her first husband passed away and one of the most heartfelt moments happened when Ron gave Addy a necklace during the ceremony and promised to be her dad forever too.  I usually shed a tear at every wedding we document, but that moment really made me feel all the feels.  Cheers to Tara, Ron & Addy - thank you for trusting us to capture your day.

The Gather Series is one of my favorite little slices of Summer.  A lavender farm in Northern Michigan, a table full of smiling people, an amazing carefully crafted multi-course meal, and of course wine.  Sweetwater Lavender Farm is a magical spot and I feel so lucky every time I get to hang out there.  The fantastic vendors for this meal include: Petoskey Cheese, Bear Creek Organic Farm, D&M Design Co., S2S, The Bow Tie Baker.  Soak in some Summer vibes....

One of the reasons I am so inspired by living in Northern Michigan is the sense of possibility.  There is a freedom here to make big dreams happen, to live the lifestyle you want.  Our friends Kalin and Matt have taken huge steps to do exactly that.  To build the life they want for themselves.  With no previous farming experience, but lots of research, support from each other and their community, love for Northern Michigan, and big dreams, they bought a beautiful piece of land just outside of downtown Petoskey.  This past Saturday they planted their first field of lavender with three different varieties and Sweetwater Lavender Farm was born.  Instead of hiding their dreams from the world, they turned this first day of planting into a Planting Party, inviting friends and neighbors to help out for as much, or as little time as they chose.  In return, they provided breakfast, lunch, beer, bubbly, and gift favors of lavender bath salts.  It was so amazing to see so many people come together to spend a day outdoors lending a hand to help two very deserving, awesome people.  At the beginning of the day Michael and I focused on shooting video and time lapse of the majority of the field being planted.  We will share that footage later, but below are some stills I took later in the evening as the light turned golden and Kalin and Matt were able to put the last few plants in the ground.  Afterwards, a number of close friends stuck around to hang out, play lawn games, and eat dinner by the campfire.  I'm so happy to call Kalin and Matt friends and I can't wait to watch all of this beautiful lavender grow over the years!  Cheers!

If you want to learn more about Sweetwater Lavender Farm, I would highly recommend following Kalin's blog and Facebook page.   Here is one of my absolute favorite posts.  And, Brides!  Kalin is an amazing floral designer!  Her studio for Stems & Sprigs, is also located on the property and she does amazing work.

Standing on a bluff overlooking Lake Michigan photographing a small intimate wedding with just eight people in attendance (including myself and the officiant) is something pretty special.  It is a true privilege to capture such important memories, but there is a unique difference when you are witnessing such a private ceremony.  It is kind of hard to explain, but it somehow feels more casual and more significant at the same time.  Karen and Rod, it was a true pleasure meeting you and witnessing this moment.

Extended family portrait sessions are the best.  I love when grandparents, kids and grandkids are all hanging out together enjoying a Northern Michigan summer.  Wildflowers, toads, suckers, play dough pancakes, kites, waves, and dune jumping all made an appearance with a lot of love mixed in.
