BIRDS OF A FEATHER DINNER // WOMEN IN THE TRAVERSE CITY FOOD & BEVERAGE INDUSTRY

When Cammie from Epicure Catering reached out to me asking if I would be available to photograph this dinner it was truly an honor. The Birds of a Feather dinner began last year and the idea is to celebrate women in the food and beverage industry in Traverse City. So female chefs, servers, bartenders, designers, managers, and more come together to put on a multi-course menu for 60+ guests. The dinner was hosted at one of my very favorite TC spots, The Little Fleet. The menu featured a passed appetizer from Katy Viswat of 7 Monks, an appetizer course from Kristen Karam of K2 Edibles, a salad course from Becky Tranchell of Rose & Fern Cafe, the main course by the season 16 winner of Hell’s Kitchen, Kim Ryan, and the dessert course by Becca Snook of Alliance. Unique cocktails were created by a number of female bartenders, staff members, and owners of local restaurants. The design concept and decor came to life thanks to Darling Botanical and the entire event was supported by a number of other amazing hardworking women. A portion of the proceeds even went to the Women’s Resource Center. It was truly a pleasure to be a part of this event. TRAVERSE CITY WINTER LIFESTYLE PHOTOGRAPHY // CLAIRE & BOWSER AT THE CABIN

Claire recently moved back to Traverse City with her pup, Bowser, and she asked if I might be willing to take some photos of them near the cabin that she lovingly called her dad’s “project cabin”. Just say the words “project cabin” and I’m there. Seriously. It’s kind of my dream to build a rustic cabin retreat in the woods and this one is a little beauty. Claire and I hiked with Bowser to her favorite part of the woods near the property. A beautiful Aspen forest covered in fresh snow. Bowser was beyond excited to be outside exploring and we did the very best we could to get portraits of him in between watching him dive under branches and then untangling him. Once we made our way back to the cabin we enjoyed the fire, chatted with Claire’s wonderful parents, and changed Bowser into an adorable new sweater. I’m pretty sure this is Northern Living at it’s finest.

NAKINA & KO // LIFESTYLE & BRAND PHOTO SHOOT // PETOSKEY, MI

Happy Monday! Last week I went to Petoskey to meet up with a group of awesome women! Savannah is the face behind Nakina Artistry, soon to become Nakina & Ko. She creates magic with hair and makeup, but she also has big plans for a rebrand which will include more lifestyle content in the future. You’ll just have to follow along with Sav to stay in the loop! ;)

HAPPY'S TACOS FOR TASTE THE LOCAL DIFFERENCE // GUIDE TO LOCAL FOOD IN NORTHERN MICHIGAN

I had the great pleasure of collaborating with Taste the Local Difference and Happy's Tacos for this year's Guide to Local Food in Northern Michigan!  Happy's Tacos creates their own hot sauces using locally grown peppers when available and the rainbow of colors created such a fun set to style and shoot.  Here's a look behind the scenes.

UP NORTH PRIDE // TRAVERSE CITY // 2018

Last week Michael and I volunteered to photograph a few of the events hosted by Up North Pride: a vigil honoring the lives lost in the Pulse Nightclub shooting, the Pride Ride through downtown Traverse City, and a sign-making party at Rare Bird Brewpub (see the bottom of this post for a full list of contributors!).  We were overwhelmed by the love we saw in this small town and felt an immense sense of joy to know that we don't need to live in a large urban area to support Pride.  As people who document love for a living, our goal is to make everyone feel welcome and accepted.  We want to work with loving people of all religious and non-religious backgrounds, all races, all sizes, all sexual orientations, and all gender identities.  The vigil was a somber reminder that we have a long way to go to achieve peace and acceptance as a society, but the pride ride and sign-making party reminded us of how far we have come.  It gave us hope for the future.  One with more love and more parents teaching their little ones how to keep an open mind and open heart.

Cheers to Up North Pride!

CEDAR CREEK INTERIORS // ELK RAPIDS

Cedar Creek Interiors has moved from Traverse City to Elk Rapids and their new store front and design studio is absolutely gorgeous.  Kim from Cedar Creek and Deb from LaLa Projects asked me to help capture the new space for their website and it was my pleasure.  Here are a few shots from a great afternoon spent oogling beautiful home goods!

THE GOLDSMITH FAMILY // TRAVERSE CITY FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHER // LAKE LEELANAU

I'll say this over and over again - I highly encourage extended families to invite a photographer to document them on vacation for a few hours.  I'm so happy that the Goldsmith family invited me to do just that.  It took a lot of clapping and silly faces from Grandma to get little Shay to smile, but I think the pictures of her sweet toothy grin made it totally worth it :)  Thanks for having me you guys, it was truly a pleasure!

SUMMER AT THE LITTLE FLEET // NORTHERN MICHIGAN FOOD AND LIFESTYLE PHOTOGRAPHY

Oh we are livin' it up in Northern Michigan these days.  We have to savor every last drop of warm weather while we savor our wine, whiskey, beer and margaritas.  Our friends at The Little Fleet asked us to do a relaxed summer shoot (you can check out our winter one, here).  We had a ton of fun photographing one of our absolute favorite hang out spots - at any time of year!  If you are in TC, The Little Fleet is a must visit.  Cheers!  And special thanks to our awesome friends who came out and allowed us to photograph them!

ROSIE // TRAVERSE CITY NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY

Life has been pretty hectic recently (we closed on our house and are in the process of moving!), but I am so happy Michelle invited me to come photograph her gorgeous baby girl, Rosie.  I know Gabe and Michelle are just overjoyed, and Rosie is such a sweet, sweet baby.  So if you need a little stress relief (like I do!) just take a deep breath and look at some newborn photos!

CEDAR CREEK INTERIORS // TRAVERSE CITY, MI.

Last week I was able to scope out Cedar Creek Interiors in Traverse City and photograph their showroom and design studio.  Cedar Creek is currently partnering with Lala Projects to redesign their website, so hopefully there will be more amazing spaces to photograph soon!

MCLAIN DESIGNS // TRAVERSE CITY KITCHEN REMODEL

Last week I worked with Meagan of McLain Designs to photograph a recent kitchen remodeling project.  The owner wanted to retain some of the older features of the kitchen, including the 20+ year old cabinets, but update the counters, cooktop and backsplash.  Meagan also designed a very cool kitchen island with a removable butcher block insert.  You will likely see more of these projects here in the future, stay tuned!

P.S. Amazing backsplash by Fireclay Tile in glazed thin Brick.
